  Throwing Positions  
     
  There are three main throwing positions  
 
  Vertical Overarm Throw
  Shoulder Level Throw
  Underarm Throw
 
Vertical Overarm Throw
This throw is for distance and accuracy. Usually used by fielders throwing from the deep.

  Fielder moves quickly behind and in line of the ball.
  Gets down as he approaches it and turns sideways.
  Head down picks the ball up.
  Right foot at right angles to the line of throw, body position side on to the target.
  Takes the throwing arm back and up in a wide arc with the bent elbow of the throwing arm leading towards the target.
  Weight transfer from back to front foot.
  Follow-through..

Shoulder Level Throw
This throw is for speed. Usually used by fielders throwing from the infield.

  Fielder moves quickly behind and in line of the ball.
  Gets down as he approaches it and turns sideways.
  Right foot at right angles to the line of throw, body position side on to the target.
  Left arm pointing in the direction of the throw-eyes looking over the left shoulder at the target.
  The throwing arm is taken back fully and is coming through sideways towards the target.
  Body has pivoted to bring right arm and shoulder into line of thow.
  Weight transfer from back to front foot.
  Full Follow-throug finishing in sideways position, eyes still on target.

Underarm Throw
This throw is for extreme speed of return. Usually used by fielders throwing from the infield. :

  Move quickly behind the line of the ball.
  Keep head down and eyes on the ball.
  Put the right foot next to the ball and pick it up with the right hand.
  Lock your wrists and elbow so that the throwing arm is straight.
  Follow through with your arm and body towards the target.
  Release the ball as soon as possible.
