|
To what sort of ball:
This shot is played to a ball that is short of a length and too straight to
cut. It is often favoured by taller players. Shorter players tend to be more
adept at cutting.
Backlift:
Swing
your bat back straight and high.
Head and shoulder movement:
Move
the head and shoulder in line and towards the pitch of the ball. Smell the
ball.
Lean
into the ball with yor front shoulder, side elbow and knee.
Foot movement:
Step
forward with your front foot alongside the line of the ball.
Weight
transfer to your front foot with your front toe pointing to extra cover and
mid-off.
Your
back foot is pegged to the ground and is back and across to allow space for the
stroke.
Weight transfer and body position:
Almost
brush your front pad with your bat as you hit the ball..
Keep
the figure 9 formed by your shoulders, arms and bat; throw your top then your
bottom hand at the ball.
Be
balanced. Watch the ball.
Bat swing:
Let
the bat swing through.
The
bat pointing in the direction of the hit
The
batsman coming onto his toes to use his height as he strikes through the ball.
Common Faults
1. Not stepping far enough back with back foot and not moving far enough over
to get on to the line of the delivery.
2. Not putting the hands up high enough in the back lift.
3. Not keeping sideways to the line of the stroke.
4. Not keeping the head balance of the body forward when making contact with
the ball.
5. Not making the top hand control the bat.
6. Not keeping the top elbow high enough. |
